Native redband trout are present in California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia. Their historic range also extends into Utah and Wyoming as well.
The redband trout is included in the Western Native Trout Challenge, though with some restrictions. For instance, the Klamath River redband trout populations in California are excluded from this challenge as well as the California Heritage Trout Challenge.
