Trout Adventures connects youth with Nevada’s wildlife and watersheds through hands-on educational programs that support classroom learning and inspire conservation.
We offer a variety of classroom programs across rural western Nevada, including those featured below.
Teachers in rural western Nevada can contact us at Info@TroutAdventures.org to bring these programs to their classrooms. Please include your class size, grade levels, and learning goals so we can tailor a program to your students’ needs. Please also let us know whether your class is participating in Trout in the Classroom this year so we can avoid repeating lessons.
Teachers elsewhere in Nevada and in neighboring communities are also welcome to request program materials, including slides and activity guides, for use in their classrooms.
Aquatic Insects
Students identify live aquatic insects collected from local waterways, exploring their life cycles and discovering the diversity of life beneath the surface.
This program is suitable for youth of all ages.
Discover Wild Nevada
An interactive classroom program that reinforces 4th-grade lessons about Nevada’s official wildlife symbols through a team-based learning game. Designed to complement the textbook Nevada, Our Home, this program highlights the state’s natural heritage.

Furs and Skulls
Students examine animal furs and replica skulls to learn about wildlife found in western Nevada and eastern California. Through hands-on exploration, they discover the unique properties of each animal’s fur and learn how teeth provide clues to its diet.
This program is suitable for youth of all ages.
Nevada State Symbols
These talks explore flora and fauna symbols of Nevada.

Lahontan Cutthroat Trout ― All about the Nevada’s state fish.
Vivid Dancer Damselfly ― All about the Nevada’s state insect.
These youth presentations are typically paired with a hands-on art or craft activity.
Additional talks on the mountain bluebird, desert bighorn sheep, and desert tortoise are in development.
Trout in the Classroom
A hands-on, multi-week conservation education program that brings trout eggs into classrooms across western Nevada. Students raise trout, learn about aquatic ecosystems, and participate in supervised release-day activities.
