The Columbia River redband trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss gairdneri) is one of three redband trout subspecies of rainbow trout. They are native to the Columbia River drainage in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
The Columbia River redband trout can be found in lake and stream form as well as sea-run (anadromous) form. Sea-run redband trout are commonly referred to as redband steelhead or simply steelhead. Note that sea-run coastal rainbow trout are also commonly referred to as steelhead.
The Columbia River redband trout populations in Washington and Montana are critically imperiled while populations in Oregon and Nevada are imperiled. The Idaho populations are apparently secure.
