Freshwater whitefish (subfamily Coregoninae of the family Salmonidae) include whitefish and ciscos. Like trout, salmon, char, and grayling, they are salmonids. The subfamily includes about 60 species of whitefish and cisco (genus Coregonus), six species of round whitefish (genus Prosopium), and the inconnu or sheefish (genus Stenodus).
