The Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) is char species of native to northern polar region. There native range includes Alaska where non-anadromous can be found in alpine lakes and their tributaries. They are also native to New England, Canada, and Eurasia.
Arctic char are a highly variable species with a wide range of morphs. A few subspecies are recognized by scientists, such as Blueback or Sunapee Trout (Salvelinus alpinus oquassa) found in New England.

The Arctic char is included Western Native Trout Challenge but only catches in Alaska qualify.
