The brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) is a species of char native to eastern portions of North America. They are also known by many names including speckled trout and brook char. They are often called brookies.
Brook trout have been introduced broadly across North America and much of the world. As introduced brookies often outcompete, prey upon, or hybridize with native species, they are considered an invasive species in these waters.
